Energetic, walkable community an hour from Manhattan

Welcome to Somerville

An energetic and walkable community an hour from Manhattan

With just over 12,000 residents, Somerville is a bustling town in the heart of Raritan Valley in Somerset County. Approximately an hour from Manhattan, Somerville offers some of that same buzzy city excitement without the traffic and congestion. It has a thriving downtown area with solid nightlife, regular art and culture events, and an engaged local community. If you want the city’s bustling energy without actually living there, Somerville is an excellent place to start your home search.
Somerville offers a range of housing options, from charming turn-of-the-century bungalows to modern luxury condos. Driving through its tree-lined streets, you'll pass classic Cape Cods, well-maintained craftsman-style homes, and charming Victorians. Houses are usually set back from the road on generously-sized plots of land, giving you plenty of space for outdoor living, gardening, and recreation.
With an easy commute via the New Jersey transit system, an ever-growing downtown area, and friendly neighbors, Somerville is a terrific place to find your next New Jersey home.

Local Lifestyle

Somerville's borough council has worked hard to reinvigorate the town, and their efforts have paid off spectacularly. Somerville is known as Somerset County’s downtown, with residents from other local areas regularly coming to enjoy its shops, restaurants, and local events. The town has a consistent bustling energy on the weekdays, and the weekends are even busier with live music and annual festivities. Residents here benefit from living in a big-city environment while enjoying its small-town friendliness.

Dining, Entertainment, & Shopping

You are spoiled for choice in Somerville when it comes to cuisine. Start by dining at Kuay Tiew Noodles & More, a casual Thai noodle soup restaurant renowned for its fresh flavors. For an upscale dining experience, head down Main Street to Verve Restaurant. The French bistro offers great sidewalk seating along with classics like duck a l'orange. Visit the award-winning Turf Surf & Earth for delicious plant-based options and a customizable menu. On date night, check out Kyma Greek Cuisine. The super chic restaurant offers traditional Greek dishes like lamb shanks and spanakopita.

Things to Do

You'll want to stay up-to-date on the Somerville events calendar because something is happening every week. The Tour of Somerville is an annual three-day event that's been going on since 1940. It includes a bike race, live music, and food stalls. Another local favorite is Cruise Nights, happening on Fridays in the summer when vintage cars line Main Street for an informal car show.
Keep the family entertained between events at the local parks, starting with Michael Lepp Park. It has a great splash pad and playground and connects to several other local parks via walking trails. Or visit YESTERcades, a retro arcade offering old-school classics like Pac-Man and Asteroids.
